Molta bello!

We are staying south of Firenze in Villa Poggiole.

For a fun day trip, start in Florence. We’ll drive along the Cassia road to beautiful San Casciano, along the River Pesa. Visit Albergaccio MachiavelliVia Scopeti 64 - Loc. Sant'Andrea in Percussina.

Stop at the Benedictine church of San Miniato al Monte, a beautiful example of Tuscan Romanesque architecture. Drive to the hills of southern Chianti and stop in Greve, the wine capital of the region. From Greve hike up to the charming fortified village of Lamole, overlooking the Greve Valley. After a gourmet lunch at the local restaurant, we will drive to the medieval village of Volpaia. From here we continue on foot to a beautiful country farmhouse estate set among the vineyards and surrounded by a lovely garden.

Fattoria means “farm” in Italian; this one has a wonderful atmosphere and ambiance, and we'll get a firsthand taste of Italian country life—a pleasant introduction to Chianti. We can enjoy a wonderful Tuscan dinner and overnight at the estate.

Gaiole in Chianti, a beautiful medieval fortified town built around the Pieve di Santa Maria a
Spaltenna, a Romanesque parish church. Our hiking destination is the Badia a Coltibuono, a Vallombrosian Abbey transformed into a spectacular “wine resort” owned by Lorenza dè Medici. We will visit the complex, known the world over for its hospitality and wine and olive oil production. We’ll then head back to Volpaia.
