About

Traditions Home, 3220 E. Douglas, Wichita, Kansas

Do not read, as children do, to amuse yourself, or like the ambitious, for the purpose of instruction. No, read in order to live. Gustave Flaubert

We hope these stories amuse and instruct you, and perhaps allow you to see life from a different perspective. This is what French writer, Gustave Flaubert meant when he said, "...read in order to live."  Reading books is a way for us to expand our horizons and travel to places we would not otherwise visit, from the Himalayas to Patagonia, and beyond. Reading is also a way to converse with some of the most interesting guests in the world, writers Hemingway or Fitzgerald, poets Keats or Pound, historians Barbara Tuchman or Paul Johnson, and on and on. And sometimes, a good book is a simple escape to another world or another life.

Gustave Flaubert's Emma Bovary should have chosen a good book over an affair of the heart, but then we would not have had Flaubert's book, Madame Bovary

And the wonderful thing about books is that unlike family and friends, good books always entertain and illuminate without disagreement. How civil is that?

So, enjoy.

Oh, a little bit about Traditions Furniture needs to be said.

The first thing you might notice is that we are located in historic neighborhoods. In Wichita, we are at Douglas and Hillside, in College Hill. In Overland Park, we are in the historic Strang Carbarn, the heart of Downtown Overland Park from where William B. Strang, Jr. operated his trolley cars and began the idea of a suburban community in the rolling hills outside Kansas City.
Welcome to Traditions Furniture.

Traditions Furniture in Overland Park and Traditions Home in Wichita have served the public for over 30 years. We offer Stickley, Ekornes and Stressless recliners, Vanguard, Sherrill, Century, Nichols & Stone, a unique line of Amish and Mennonite furniture called Gat Creek, and more. Add to these fine brands a dash of Uttermost mirrors, Tiffany lamps by Quoizel and Dale Tiffany, unique gifts and accessories, and you begin to get the feel of our two stores.

But anyone, given enough money, could go out and buy or lease a building and fill it with merchandise. True, but what makes Traditions special is the personal service we provide. For over 30 years, we have been about getting it right and designing a home to fit your unique lifestyle. Life, after all, is about people. A house is only a home when it is made comfortable for our family and friends.

Something more than comfortable, that is how we think of our design philosophy. A beautiful home is a comfortable environment, but it is something more. A home is where we gather our memories and preserve the hope for a better future.

Visit Traditions, we are closed on Sundays to be with our families. During the week we are open from 10:00 am until 5:30 and close at 5:00 pm on Saturday.
